June 1, 2015, Beijing - CBRE recently announced that it will launch the “Save a Child’s Life” program in China for 2015, making this the 9th year that CBRE has sponsored the program. Over the years, CBRE has donated approximately RMB1.6 million to this program, and 80 young children have benefited.
According to the plan for 2015, CBRE will continue to partner with Operation Blessing China to implement this program. Five children from Hubei province who suffer from congenital heart disease will receive financial support from CBRE for surgeries and related medical treatment. Currently potential beneficiaries are being identified, screened and confirmed, and the selection process is expected to complete early June. The young patients will then be admitted to the local hospital and receive surgeries during July.
CBRE strongly believes in its responsibilities as a corporate citizen and is committed to making a positive impact upon the communities.
Ivan Poon, President, CBRE China, said: “Corporate social responsibility is an integral part in the development of our business. Our vision to Build on Advantage also involves building dreams and bringing hope to disadvantaged children. ‘Save a Child’s Life’ is one of our key philanthropic programs in fulfilling our CSR strategy. Our support to this program goes beyond just providing financial assistance to the suffering children and their families. In addition, we hope that, through this program, the children will be inspired and courageously respond to future challenges as they grow up and more importantly, pass on the caring and blessings to people in need. We believe the program also provides an opportunity for our employees to engage in meaningful activities and become caring and responsible citizens.”
Congenital heart disease is one of the life-threatening diseases children face. Providing surgeries for infants is widely recognized as the most effective and safest treatment. According to the latest Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China, the prevalence rate of perinatal congenital heart disease in China is between 6.8 ‰ - 14.39 ‰ (‰ for permillage). Based on the average rate of 8 ‰, in mainland China each year, there are about 160,000 children born with the disease. A great number of suffering children miss the right timing for treatment as their families, mostly from rural areas, cannot afford the surgeries. According to some statistics, in China, about 50% children with congenital heart disease die before the age of three and 30% do not live past 20 years of age.
Anna Liu, General Manager of Operation Blessing China, said: “Generous donation from the society brings hope and a brand-new life to the suffering children and their families via life-saving heart surgeries. CBRE and OB China share similar social values and are strongly committed to promoting children well-being around the world. For nine consecutive years, we have received generous support from CBRE and we are looking forward to building upon the momentum and bringing light and hope to more children who need help.”
