Shanghai continues to promote the development of the "five centres" and is now firmly established as an international economic, financial, trade and shipping hub. The city has also made great strides towards becoming a globally influential scientific and technological innovation centre.
Despite challenging economic conditions and the prolonged pandemic, the financial industry and IT service sector steadily expanded their presence in Shanghai during 2022, adding to the city’s resilience, potential and vitality.
Amid an extended supply peak, the emergence of new industries and the city’s economic upgrading have spurred an evolution in the city’s office market. Seeking to better understand the composition of office demand in Shanghai, CBRE recently conducted a study of 6,840 occupiers; some 10.5 million sq. m. of space; and 260 Grade A buildings. This latest exercise follows similar surveys conducted in 2020 and 2018.
